Extracorporeal / Perfusion
Blood Oxygenator Housing
An oxygenator housing contains the hollow-fiber bundle and the blood/gas flow paths of a perfusion circuit. It is a prolonged blood-contact device that must be optically clear for clot inspection, rigid enough to hold pressure, and bondable to potting compounds.

Component material package
A recommended grade per component, drawn from the Nexeo catalog. Recommendations are engineering assessments; a cited property links the choice to data we hold for that grade.
| Component | Recommended grade | Why |
|---|---|---|
Main housing shell Clear pressure-holding enclosure | Makrolon Rx2530 Polycarbonate (PC) | A high-flow clear PC fills large thin-wall housings while keeping the clarity needed to inspect the blood path. Grade selected for melt flow and impact; clarity is a family characteristic not yet on this grade sheet. |
End caps / manifolds Flow-distribution end caps | Makrolon Rx1805 Polycarbonate (PC) | A medical PC matches the shell for solvent-bonding and holds connector geometry. |
Inlet/outlet connectors Rigid barbed tubing connectors | Eastman Tritan MX711 Copolyester (Copolyester) | A clear copolyester resists the lipids and alcohols in a perfusion circuit and bonds to PC assemblies. |

Key regulatory requirements
- ISO 10993-4 hemocompatibility (blood contact)
- ISO 10993-1 prolonged contact
- USP Class VI
- Burst-pressure and connector pull per applicable device standard
Engineering watch-outs
- Blood contact requires hemocompatibility (ISO 10993-4), which is beyond a Class VI statement.
- Solvent bonding PC introduces residual-solvent and stress-crazing risk — validate bond process.
- Confirm the potting-compound-to-housing adhesion as a system, not per material.
